NORMAN, OK – A demonstrated commitment to the preservation of the Second Amendment Right to keep and bear arms has earned Oklahoma Fourth District Congressman Tom Cole the endorsement of the Oklahoma Rifle Association.
"The Oklahoma Rifle Association is proud to endorse the candidacy of Tom Cole for the office of United States Representative, Dist. 4, in the 2008 General Election", wrote Executive Director Charles H. Smith. Smith's letter continued saying "Rep. Cole is highly qualified for this position and is a strong proponent of the 'right to keep and bear arms' and has demonstrated strong support for the sportsmen of Oklahoma. His re-election to this position would well serve the citizens of our great State." The letter endorsing Cole concluded by saying, "We would urge our fellow Oklahomans to strongly consider his candidacy for this office."
Congressman Cole responded to the endorsement with the following comments:
"I am honored to receive the support and endorsement of the Oklahoma Rifle Association. Because I am strong defender of our Second Amendment rights and a member of the National Rifle Association, I understand that gun ownership rights are constantly under attack by liberals in Congress as well as activist judges on the federal bench. As the Representative of Oklahoma's Fourth Congressional District, I will continue to make it a priority to fight to protect this important and sacred right."
"The Supreme Court recently struck down a Washington D.C. statute that unconstitutionally restricted gun ownership rights of those residing in our nation's capital. While this was a real win for D.C. citizens, the fight continues for other parts of the country that are still subject to unconstitutional bans. As long as gun ownership rights are under attack, I will be a tireless advocate for our right to bear arms."
